Skinny Ties: Just a fad or a new Tie trend

Skinny ties or also often called narrow ties go back to the mid 60s and 70s. The original old school skinny tie is about 2 inches wide at the bottom and was usually plain colored. Colors such as black, gray and tan were most common back in the day. Today the skinny tie is having a comeback. Although most manufactures carry the old school 2" tie in the typical plain colors, many designers combine the old style tie with more modern designs and colors. Classic stripes on a skinny tie are quite fashionable. Although some manufacturers offer skinny ties in pastel colors such as a sage green, baby blue, a light orange or yellow, this spring color is much more suited for a normal sized necktie, which has a width of 3.25" to 3.75".

In addition to a wider range of colors and designs, designers experiment with different materials. The knitted wool tie is being included in many designers' portfolios. Although wearing such a tie would make a fashion statement when combined with clothes that compliment this look, it is not suited for the business attire. The knitted wool fabric doesn't give of the elegant look a silk tie has. In addition knotting such a tie with a fashionable tie knot is almost impossible. Having a rebellious knot that is slightly loose and not quite straight goes perfect with the skinny tie.

The skinny tie will most likely not be adapted in the elegant business attire. Instead it is a seasonal piece of neck wear that accessorizes a rebellious and hipster looking style.
