Clint Eastwood, In the Hot Seat

Democrat or Republican, Clint Eastwood’s RNC speech was poignantly awkward and for the record –very unscripted. There were enough “oh.., ew.., eh.., aw.., ohs..” to make a stuttering, 20 something college graduate living at home, cringe. Spit it out Clint and “Make our day.” Who wants to be the brazen brain who suggests editing Clint Eastwood? Nobody -and now Mr. Eastwood is in the proverbial hot seat with his “invisible chair.”

The speech / skit revolved around the premise that he was talking to President Obama who was invisibly present sitting in an empty chair. What happened next was wild, kooky, undirected and awkward for viewers. I think Comedy Central got it best with “I was talking to Barack Obama the other day. ... Potato. Sneaker. Fish. Pizza. Algebra. Racecar." The idea and the concept he was trying to convey never materialized and now the speech has become an internet sensation.

The technique of talking to an invisible chair has now been trademarked as “eastwooding” and twitter accounts are going gangbusters with jokes about the speech. Some of the tweets include:

Piers Morgan tweeted, “Well, #Clint eclipsed Mitt (whatever he says) but I'm not sure for the right reasons. One of the craziest things I've ever watched.”

Chris Rock tweeted, “BREAKING NEWS: CNN REPORTS: Last night when he got home, Clint Eastwood got in a huge fight with the rest of his furniture.”

The New Yorker tweeted, “A new poll reveals that Romney trails Clint Eastwood's empty chair after convention.”

Whether it’s good or bad, Clint Eastwood stole the show and the media buzz of the RNC convention. Despite the awkwardness of it all, we did like his savvy blue striped tie. We would like to introduce you to our trending "eastwooding" tie. It looks sensational paired with an empty chair.
