Even the nicest suit and most expensive designer tie can look cheap if matched incorrectly. Below are 4 tips that will make matching your suits and neckties a piece of cake. These four tricks is all you will need to know when matching a tie to a suit.

#1 Tie Width
Recently skinny ties have once again become popular. But before buying a skinny tie and wearing it with any suit pay attention to the with of the jacket's lapels. The width of the tie must be in proportion with the width of the lapels. Thus, skinny ties will look best with fitted European cut suits that have narrow (less than 2 inches) lapels and 2-button single breasted cut.

#2 Patterns
If you choose to wear a patterned suit and tie together make sure that the patterns are different in size and style. #3 Colors
Three simple things must be considered when it comes to color matching: The season of the year, do the colors on each clothing piece go together, and what colors look good on you. Finally you should pay some attention to the fabric of the tie and the suit. Most neckties are made from silk but some (especially trendy skinny neckties) are made from cotton and/or knitted wool. Make sure that the fabric of the tie matches the suit. Coarser tie fabrics like knits look better with suits and sports coats made from worsted wool or linen.
