Nubuck Leather
Nubuck is a type of leather that has slight nap, and is similar to the look and feel of suede. The difference to suede however is the that Nubuck is made from the outer side of the hide while suede is made from the inner. Since the outer side of the hide is much tougher nubuck is much more durable than suede. Nubuck is usually also more expensive than suede. IN fact it is one of the most expensive types of leathers.
Nubuck leather was commonly worn by cowboys on gloves and chaps. The outer side of the raw hide is buffed or sanded to give it a slightly rougher look. The word is derived from the word "New Buck". Today Nubuck is commonly used on men's gloves, hiking boots, but also furniture. Nubuck stains easily and needs to be treated with water repellent spray before wearing.
