Fine narrow stripes add a nice contrast to the shiny silk fabric. When matching this tie one preferably wears a shirt and suit with no striped pattern in the fabric, but if done, the patterns have to be different. A thin striped tie could be quite well matched with a shirt having wide stripes. A very fine striped tie with a fine pin striped suit should be avoided, as too similar patterns are distracting.
