Zegna Ermenegildo

Ermenegildo Zegna is a high-end Italian fashion designer founded in 1910. To learn more about the history, trademarks and other trivia of this fine men's clothing designer please click the link on the left.

The company was founded in Trivero, Italy in 1910 by Ermenegildo Zegna who was only 18 years old at the time. Since then the company has been owned by the Zegna family, and currently the fourth generation is managing the business.

Zegna quickly gained a reputation of making finest wool suits, and by 1930 the company employed over 1,000 workers. The company continued to expand by opening boutique stores throughout the world. Although already popular in the US much earlier, the company didn't open a US boutique until 1989. Today the company has over 500 stores, of which nearly half are in the Zegna family's direct ownership.

What makes Zegna unique, besides the direct family ownership, is the company's efforts to purchase raw materials directly at the country of origin, and then spinning and weaving those into highest quality wools. Zegna's reputation for producing high quality fabrics and classic/ elegant garments has been recognized by other high end fashion houses and Zegna has been making farbics and suits for designers like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Giorgio Armani.

Another point worth mentioning is the company's sensitivity for the environment. Ermenegildo Zegna established and financed a project for the reclamation of the hillsides of Trivero in 1930. Following their father's footsteps the later generation created the 100 square mile large "Oasi Zegna".
