The lounge suit was once considered a slightly informal piece of clothing. Today it is the classic suit style worn for business.

A lounge suit is another name for the modern business suit. The name lounge suit harkens back to a Victorian and pre-Victorian time when every day dress codes were more formal and todays business suit was essentially considered an informal set of clothing used for lounging.

It is worth noting that the term lounge suit can mean different things in different geographical locations; the difference is particularly evident between the United States and the United Kingdom. No matter where you are, however, a safe bet is to assume that lounge suit means a business suit worn with a black tie.
