A crewneck is a simple collar that is nothing more than a round finished opening in the top of a garment that fits close to the neck. Most commonly crewnecks be found on T-shirts and sweaters. What differentiates crewneck shirts from other styles of shirts is the shape of the opening. Unlike v neck or scoop front shirts (found on most men’s undershirts), a crewneck shirt simply has a circle opening; which is why a crewneck shirt is sometimes called a circle cut shirt.

The term crewneck comes from the neckline of a style of sweater that was traditionally worn by oarsmen on rowing teams in the early 1900’s.
