Cope

The Cope is a Catholic clothing item that closely resembles the hooded cape. For more info please click here:

A cope is a piece of clothing worn by members of the clergy in many Catholic traditions. Unlike many other religious vestments, variations of the cope can be worn by nearly any member of the clergy regardless of rank.

The cope strongly resembles a heavy ornate cape that is wide enough to wrap around the entire body. Copes are generally floor length and worn with a clasp closing it around the neck. Originally copes were produced with hoods, as the garment was as much for protection from the elements as it was for ornamentation; however as trends and the duties of the clergy evolved over the years the hood all but disappeared from most copes and has instead been replaced with ornate embroidery.
