Brioni was founded by the master tailor Nazareno Fonticoli, and entrepreneur Gaetano Savini in 1945. Since the date the company was founded the company's address has remained the same: Via Barberini 79-81, Rome, Italy.

Brioni participated in it's first major fashion show in 1952 in Florence, Italy. Two years later, in 1954, Brioni held their first fashion show in New York, which turned out to be a huge success. In the same year the company opened their first US store.

Although Brioni is mostly known for their high-end mens wear, especially suits and neckties, the company launched a women's line in 1990 under the leadership of then CEO Umberto Angeloni who had s strong vision for global expansion. Today Brioni owns just over two dozen mens stores, and besides hand tailored suits, offers shirts, neckwear, and leather accessories for both men and women. Brioni suits are still one of the most sought after garments in men's formal, and business fashion. A Brioni suit will start at about $5,000 and can go up to over $40,000 - a suit made from extremely rare Vicuna Lama wool and pin stripes made from pure white gold thread. Each garment is handmade in Italy from finest fabrics. It is said that a Brioni suit takes at least 30 hours of work from very skilled tailors. Today Brioni employees close to a 1,000 tailors and creates garments for about 25,000 customers a year.
