Who Dresses Better - Team Obama vs Team Romney?

It’s no secret that the battle for the White House is one of the hottest topics in the world at the moment. With many people being dissatisfied by the work done by President Obama and Vice President Biden thus far, a great deal of Americans are calling upon the change the might occur from bringing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan into the White House. The fact is, each pair has their own distinct set of strengths and weaknesses, which has made this one of the most divisive races in a great while. All politics aside, however, it’s worth noting that each pair also has their own distinct look in terms of fashion and style. While this may not necessarily be a deciding point come election time, there’s no getting around the fact that it is essential for world leaders to look their best at all time, and that presidential fashion and style truly does matter more than many people might think. The following are just a few aspects of each pair’s overall look, and how they differ from one another.

Obama/Biden
Say what you will about how Barack Obama and Joe Biden have run the country thus far; they both are very adept at dressing in an attractive manner. Bearing this in mind, it’s important to note that things have changed since the days in which Obama's suits were well-tailored. As of late, the fit of his suits have looked a bit loose. It appears as if the stress of being the President not only gave him a few extra gray hairs, but also caused him to loose some weight. While he does look thin, he does not look nu-healthy skinny. Our tip to you Mr President: Take a trip to the tailor to have your suits re-altered to complement your body type. Wearing a suit that is a size too big certainly does not do you any favors in terms of style.

Apart from his poor suit fit, one would be remiss to say that he dresses in anything but a sharp, clean manner. He is very partial to the blue necktie, in fact Obama wears the light blue tie 4 out of 10 times - a color that perfectly compliments his complexion. Not only does he pick the perfect tie color, but he also knows how to tie them with a nice dimpled knot which is perfect in proportion to the narrow spread collared dress shirts he typically wears.

While a lot of Attention is often put on Obama, Joe Biden also happens to be an exceptionally smart dresser. While the president is expected to dress a bit more conservative, the Vice President usually has a bit more leeway in terms of his wardrobe choices - something that Mr. Biden does take perfect advantage of. This can be best seen in the wide range of tie colors he wears, his occasional use of the pocket square, his sometimes French Cuffed shirts, as well as his pin striped suits. Well done Mr Biden!

Romney/Ryan
While much of the country is indeed looking for a change, it would be difficult to say whether or not the Romney/Ryan bill is the correct answer. This is particularly evident in the way that the two men dress. Mitt Romney, for example, often eschews the suit in favor of wearing a white button-down shirt and cornflower blue tie; a look that he has favored throughout the campaign trail. When he’s at a large, highly-publicized event, however, he very often finds himself wearing a single-breasted navy blue suit with notched lapels; not too dissimilar to those worn by Obama and Biden (save for the color). Regardless of what he’s wearing, however, Romney almost always appears to look a bit “stiff” and uncomfortable in his formal attire.

Paul Ryan - the new kid on the block - is certainly not the most fashionable man in the race; he is, in fact, the least. More often than not, Ryan can be seen wearing an unbuttoned dark suit featuring overly wide lapels. At a height of 6 foot 2 inches Ryan is anything but short, although his boxy cut suits do make him appear this way. He also tends to leave the tie at home when putting together this ensemble, which not only makes him look a bit sloppy but also (at least from our biased tie aficionados point of view) unprofessional. While Paul Ryan can certainly dress in an adequate manner, he’s not turning any heads with his style as of late.

The Winners: Obama/Biden
It would be unfair to bring politics into the conversation of which team of candidates is best-dressed. Based solely on appearances, the Obama/Biden team has a slight edge over the Republican opponents. Paul Ryan may be young, but Obama is the one who truly brings a youthful yet competent look to the White House (save, perhaps, for his less-than-perfect suits); Ryan just looks “young,” lacking any fashion sense whatsoever. While Romney is far from being a poor dresser, the fact that he always looks so stiff makes him not necessarily the best candidate for “best-dressed,” and puts him behind the Obama/Biden bill. Regardless, it’ll no doubt be an interesting next few months!
