Tips on Matching Cufflinks

How to Wear Your Cufflinks

Are you interested to find new ways to add more style to your suit and tie look. Are you getting bored with the same old style each day to work? Then, it is time for you to change a few accessories to give you a new look. Cufflinks are a great way to add more style and also a more personal touch to your uniform look of suit and tie. You don’t need to spend much money to do this. At Ties-Necktie we offer fashionable designer cufflinks for less than $15.

Matching Colors on Your Cufflinks:
The most popular colors for cufflinks are silver and gold. If you are new to wearing cufflinks then choosing one of those basic colors first is recommended. As a general rule for matching silver and gold cufflinks: The cufflink color has to match your belt buckle. In addition, your other pieces jewelry, like your wristwatch, should match. If you like the look of gold cufflinks, consider shades of brown such as a tan colored suit, brown dress shoes, and brown belt in your clothing as brown is an excellent combination for gold pieces of jewelry in men’s fashion.

Besides the basic colors of silver and gold, many cufflink designers use colored glass and/or stones. If you are wearing a colored pair of cufflinks, make sure that this color shade is found in other pieces of your clothing. Weather it is your necktie, or a fine striopoing pattern on your dress shirt, a similar color shade must be present. A blue colored cufflink set would go well with a light blue dress shirt for example. What you want to avoid is too many contradicting colors that, instead of making you a well-dressed man, make you look more like parrot.

The Different Cufflink Styles:
The styles of cufflinks available today are endless. The more traditional and basic the design, the more conservative the look. If you are bored with the uniform look of your suit and tie, add more personality with a novelty cufflink set. Unlike novelty ties, that have a somewhat tacky reputation in men’s fashion, novelty cufflinks are well accepted. Novelty cufflinks also make a great gift idea.

The Different Materials:
Cufflinks are made out of a wide range of materials. Most common are metals, but glass, fabric, wood, bone, and even Ivory is used. What material of cufflinks you wear is completely your choice in taste and also your budget. Materials are less important than the color you choose for matching cufflinks to your outfit.

Your Dress Shirts:
Cufflinks are worn with so-called French cuffed dress shirts. The French cuff is often times also called “double cuff” since the cuffs are folded back before they are secured with a set of cufflinks. Unlike traditional dress shirts, French cuffed shirts do not have any buttons on the cuffs. They are considered a more formal and more elegant dress shirt, particularly when paired with a set of quality cufflinks. French cuffed shirts have gained much popularity in recent years and are worn for formal black tie events in combination with a tuxedo, as well as leisure attire with or without ties.

How Much to Spend on Cufflinks?
Cufflinks can cost anywhere from a few dollars to thousands of dollars. The deciding factor in price is the metal and the stones used. The more precious the materials, the more expensive the cufflinks will be. How much you would like to spend is completely your own choice. It is recommended however to have at least two different sets of cufflinks to allow for a wider range of matching them to your outfit. If you are a regular traveler, then buying a slightly less expensive set of cufflinks used for your travels is recommended since cufflinks are quite often forgotten and left behind.
