Norfolk Jacket
A Norfolk jacket is a loose single breasted overcoat style jacket distinguished by its rear box pleats and full or half belt at the waist. The box pleats play an important role in the Norfolk jacket due to the fact that it was originally designed as a shooters jacket that would not bind as the wearer lifted their arms to fire a rifle.
The Norfolk jacket first became popular in the mid to late 1800’s among upper-class gentlemen who participated in the sport of hunting, and it was commonly worn with a pair of knickerbockers Today the Norfolk jacket is not widely worn with more individuals choosing the more casual, yet similar safari suit jacket which in itself is not that popular either.
