Jhane Barnes is a popular American men’s fashion designer who has also reached success in the areas of textile, furniture, upholstery and carpet design.
Jhane Barnes is known for using innovative new design technologies and materials in creating fabrics for both her textile business and her menswear clothes. Algorithmically generated fractal patterns have helped Jhane make a name for herself in the clothing industry; while the use of recycled and novel materials earned her a reputation in the upholstery and contract market.
Jhane began her career as a teenager designing uniforms for her school's dance band. Shortly thereafter she enrolled in New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. On graduating Jhane secured a $5000 loan from one of her professors to start her own menswear clothing line. From that moment on Jhane was full speed ahead in her career. In 1980 she was the youngest person ever to receive the COTY award which stemmed from her interest in developing new fabrics. The following year, with a textile industry still impressed with her work, Jhane received the award again.
Most recently Jhane has entered the environmentally friendly market with environmentally friendly textiles and furniture created out of renewable and sustainably harvested materials.
