Terrycloth

Terrycloth is the name of a type of fabric that today is commonly used to create towels. Terry cloth is popular for creating towels due to its high liquid absorption capacity, ability to be mass-produced and inexpensive cost of construction. The weaving technique that gives terrycloth its liquid absorbing properties results in many small loops that cover the entire surface of the fabric; though lower grades of terrycloth can be found with a simple threads rather than loopes covering the surface.

In addition to being made into towels terrycloth is also a popular fabric for use in the construction of leisure clothing such as bathrobes and sweat bands; in addition to invent clothing and reusable diapers.
