Oxford Bags

Oxford Bags

Oxford bags are, as the name suggests, a baggy type of trousers that originated at the Oxford University in England in the 1920s. The bottoms of the pants typically measured between 24-26 inches and covered most of the shoe.

This unique style of trousers originated in 1924, the time when the Oxford University banned the wear of knickers on campus - hence the name Oxford bags. Shortly after this pant style grew in popularity throughout England and eventually even in America and other parts of Europe. By the 1950s this style of baggy pants was out of fashion, but experienced a re-birth, although slightly different in style, in the 1970s.
