Herringbone

Herringbone

Herringbone is a pattern that looks much like stacked V’s. The V’s can either be of the same color, or alternating colors depending on the desired look. The term herringbone is a reference to the patterns resemblance to the bone structure of a herring (fish) which is similarly delicate and linear.

Typically fabric that is woven with the herringbone pattern is constructed with a twill weave and generally made from wool; though neither of these has to be the case in all circumstances as designers tend to incorporate this pattern in unique ways.

Because the process of creating a herringbone pattern creates a rather thick piece of fabric, this style is traditionally used in outerwear and suit coats.
