By the end of this week we will have added several dozens of silk scarves as well as ascots. Prices start as low as $19.90 - a steal considering each item is handmade from finest silk fabric. AscotsMost modern men may not even know about ascot ties. The ascot is a traditional type of neckwear from England that originated over 100 years ago. It used to be a very formal type of fashion accessory that was paired with a tailcoat jacket worn during formal daytime functions. Nowadays the ascot tie is far less ridged and commonly worn during lesure in combination with sports coat or blazer jacket. For more information you might also want to read about the ascot tie in our mens fashion encyclopedia. Silk ScarvesOur scarves are handmade from finest natural silk. They are extremely soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear - and that not just on cold days. We at Ties-Necktie.com carry silk scarves with and without tassels and in a wide range of colors and patterns. Even though it is personal preference how you decide to wear the scarf, we suggest wearing it tugged into the collar and lapels of an overcoat. Convenience and presentability are leading targets for consumers interested in this category. Suits consist from up to fifty separate pieces each adding to a wearable and attractive look. To make a durable and handsome wash and wear suit requires extraordinary efforts at product specification, coordination of material engineering and designers as well as very high production quality control. Australian wool technicians have innovated a wool blend that is making the vision of a truly washable suit a reality. They have combined Merino wool with polyester and just a pinch of Lycra to get the fabric just right. The so-called “Shower Suit” is intended for the on-the-go businessman who wishes to refresh his look from the grime of a few days in a gritty urban environment. How do you care for it? According to Jimmy Jackson, who oversaw development of the suit for Australian Wool Innovation, “You can simply take the suit off, place it on a hanger, take it to the domestic shower in your bathroom, just hose it down, completely wet through the suit for about three or four minutes and then just leave it to dry. It dries in about three or four hours depending on the air temperature and the next morning you can get up, put the suit on and it's ready to wear to work again without ironing.” Where can you get it? Although the suit saw action in fashion shows in Paris and Milan earlier this year, currently, the Shower Suit is only available in Japan from Konaka. Don’t worry though. A full Merino Easy Wool or Merino Fresh based wardrobe from suits to shoes and washable ties now available. If you dressed in one of these outfits and didn’t get the job then chances are the first impression ruined any chance to get called back. Not Looking at the Industry Dress Code Knowing how to dress according to the type of job you are interviewing for is important. If you are interviewing for a “white collar” profession then suit and tie are a must. While a tie can be left off when applying for a “blue collar” job it is still recommended to slightly overdress than being too casual. Dressing up shows that you care, and it shows the potential employer that you are serious about the job. Being Too Fashionable Unless you are applying for an “artsy” profession, you do not want to make a fashion statement during a job interview. Pick a conservative suit, classic white dress shirt, and a tie that is not too loud in color and design. Too Formal Never wear a tuxedo, don’t pick a suit with a shawl lapel, and never wear a suit that has any satin fabric finishes. Also to avoid are patent leather dress shoes, solid colored bow ties, pleated dress shirts, or shirts with hidden front buttons. All these are part of black tie attire and should never be worn in a business setting. Wrong Accessories Keep the entire outfit professional. This goes beyond suit, shirt, and tie. Make sure that any accessory goes with this professional business look. Things to avoid are backpacks, tennis socks, tennis shoes, and hats. Proper Grooming Make sure that you comb your hair and shave. You don’t need to get a new haircut for the interview but make sure that you look clean and well taken care off. This goes beyond hair styling and shaving. Make sure that your clothes are free from wrinkles as well as odor and stain free. Also make sure that your fingers are well manicured and your hands are clean. The Worst Ties Never wear so-called novelty neck ties which have a tacky reputation. Novelty ties are supposed to be humorous and should only be worn on very special occasions in business, but never to a job interview. Also to avoid are ties that are too formal and/or too flashy. Solid black, silver, and white ties should be avoided. Keep in mind that you do not want to make a fashion statement. Instead you want to make a professional, reliable, and trustworthy impression. When polishing your dress shoes, there are several products that will help you bring out more shine. Below are the pros and cons of each product as well as tips on how to use it.Shoe Cream & Paste Most shoe creams contain mineral oils that help restore the natural shoe color. Creams are much more liquid than wax allowing to penetrate into the leather keeping it flexible while still adding shine. They are also much quicker and easier to use than wax but unlike wax do not cover cuffs very well. Shoe Wax Wax is the classic product for polishing dress shoes. It is excellent for covering cuffs and it brings out the best shine. When shopping for shoe wax we suggest to look for a product that is made from natural Beeswax. The drawback with wax is that excessive use can seal the leather and cause it to dry out and crack. Liquid Polishes Liquid Polishes are good for travel. It is very easy and super fast to use. But using it as your primary way to polish your shoes is not recommended since it can dry out the leather causing it to crack and break. Water & Stain Protective Spray Water repellent stray should be used for the rainy season. Especially dress shoes with leather soles should be sprayed a few times to avoid water coming in from the sole. Using such sprays on the upper leather is a little controversial. Some argue that those sprays containing silicone or any petroleum base causes the leather to dry out and break. Best for the upper leather is mink oil. It is quite expensive but will not damage the leather while still adding more shine. Leather Cleaners Shoe cleaners are excellent for removing stains, dirt, as well as excessive wax and shoe polish build up. We recommend using cleaners three to four times per year. Cleaners that should be avoided are products containing types of acids and solvents which can cause damage to the leather. Excellent products are saddle soap, Murphy's Oils Soap, and Ivory Soap. Make sure to wide the show down with a damp cloth after cleaning to remove any residue of the cleaner before conditioning and polishing the shoes. This is possible thanks to newer high tech fabrics. Advances in fabric making have created many new opportunities for clothing manufacturers to create fashionable, yet also functional clothing pieces. The secret lies in applying nanotechnology to fabric and textile making. Nanotechnology is a science that studies materials that are smaller than 100 nanometers which is one billionth of a metric meter, or about 1/100th of the width of a human hair. The first one to apply nanotechnology into fabric making was Chemist David Soane in 1998. Creating microscopic thin yarns and weaving these into fabrics made clothing wrinkle resistant, stain repellent, and also able to wick away body moisture. How "Nano-Fabrics" are Made Let's look at the process of making Nanotech Cotton - a cotton fabric commonly used for wrinkle-free dress shirts and khaki dress pants. First, nanotech fibers are created by pressing the man-made, crystal-like building blocks through molecular scale nozzles. These so-called nanofibers are then immersed in liquids and mixed in with the much larger cotton fibers. After the nanofibers have bonded with the cotton, the fabric is spun into regular sized yarns - which actually appears completely unchanged to natural cotton fibers. This nano-tech cotton yarn is then woven into fabrics that look like cotton but is more wrinkle resistant and stain-repellent. Pros and Cons The benefits of using such high-tech fabrics is obvious: They are extremely easy to care for and much more convenient. They eliminate trips to dry-cleaners and make ironing almost unnecessary. So what are the drawbacks? First of all, some people prefer to have a crease in their dress pants that runs alongside the leg. Second, some nano-fabrics are less breathable making them much more uncomfortable to wear in hot climates. Finally, which is actually the largest concern to most, are formaldehyde fumes. The resin finishes of the fabric slowly emits fumes over its lifespan. These vapors have been associated with tiredness, headaches, coughing, and other allergic reactions. It is a very versatile fashion accessory that will get plenty of use. ![]() ![]() ![]() To help you make the decision a little easier we have selected a few great looking ties that any dad will love. Your Ties-Necktie.com Team Monday, June 7. 2010Fashion for TravelersTravel in Style: Un-Tourist Yourself Fashion might not be one of your primary concerns when you travel, but you also have to consider that it affects more than just the way you look. Numerous studies have shown that you’re treated better when you appear more respectable, no matter where you are in the world right now. There are definite perks for your losing the notorious tourist look and giving yourself a style upgrade for your vacation.Bring the Right Bag The fanny pack is easily one of the most notorious telltale indicators of a tourist being a tourist. Although the belt bag has long been praised as a practical choice for security-conscious travelers, its strengths end there. You could do much, much better than that. A belt bag is a bad idea for men – fashion- and otherwise – for several reasons. First, it draws attention to your midsection; a big neon marquee couldn’t have done a better job. Unless you’re shirtless and packing abs, that’s reason enough to avoid fanny packs. Secondly, they don’t go with any style of any item. Even if you get one in finest Italian leather, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single piece that looks good with it. If you’re all for ergonomics, try a small backpack, which will look more dignified on the modern man. Some brands like Columbia and North Face offer a functionally masculine selection that’s metropolitan at the same time. Do you want something a little more style-conscious? A sleek and streamlined messenger – canvas or leather would be best – gives you space and security without sacrificing aesthetics. You’re not necessarily sacrificing security just because your belongings aren’t strapped to your posterior. Design elements like zippers and bag flaps make it just as hard to rob you when you’re in an unsafe locale. In extreme circumstances like a crowded soukh or a crammed train, a belt bag isn’t particularly advantageous. Remove the Running Shoe Style-wise, there’s a very distinct line between running shoes and sneakers. As a tourist, wearing running shoes when going around a new city is comfortable, but it’s also the easiest way for locals to spot you from a mile away. Every running shoe is designed that way to provide the best experience for runners hence the garish color schemes (for visibility) and very chunky soles (for cushioning). Unless you plan to see the sights at 8 MPH, you don’t need any of that. Swap the running shoes out for slimmer and lower profile sneakers or loafers, which give you all the cushioning you’ll need for a day of touring. They’ll let you tour in style to boot. Heft and size are the basic fashion problems of every running shoe; they’re simply way too chunky for your own good. By sticking to shoes with cleaner lines and a sleeker shape, you give yourself more room to mix and match and create a good outfit. Take Off the Souvenir Tee Almost every tourist hotspot on the planet features one souvenir tee or another, whether it’s ‘I Heart NY’ or a print of the area’s most famous attraction. Whatever those prints might be, wearing a vacation souvenir is unwise when you’re still on vacation yourself. Besides being boastful of other places you’ve already visited – something many find pretentious – you also place a huge ‘Tourist’ sign on your chest with those tees. Don’t expect the locals to bargain way below tourist prices for you. You don’t have to bring it all the way up to suit-and-tie formality, but you could at least dress inconspicuously or like a local. Clean white shirts are the best and most neutral tops you could want in most places of the world. In warm climates, they’re even ideal for looking sharp despite the heat, especially ones made of linen or pima. Today’s tourist guides offer one common piece of advice: try not to look like a tourist, even when you are one. Keeping your appearance as inconspicuous and un-touristy as possible is a matter of security and, more importantly, style.
