Corduroy – What it is, And How to Wear.

Tips on Wearing Corduroy

What is Corduroy
Corduroy is a rigid form of velvet. The fabric is characterized by by parallel lines (similar like twill fabric) that are created by weavng twisted yarns into a fabric. Corduroy is commonly used in men’s dress pants as well as sports coats and blazers.

Who Wears Corduroy
Although Corduroy isn’t for everyone’s taste, anyone can wear it. The thicker fabric is typically better suited for colder climates. Corduroy is quite common in Northern England, Scotland and Ireland. In the US, Corduroy is more popular among the older population. It is commonly worn in pleated slacks as well as blazers. Recently Corduroy has gained much popularity in younger men in trendy-tailored sports coats.

Neckties or Bow Ties With Corduroy
For traditional Corduroy slacks that are pleated as well as blazers, bow ties are the common chosen type of neckwear. Especially self-tied, and larger bow ties (3″ – 3.5″ spread) are well suited. Younger men often times combine the retro-skinny neckties with Corduroy sports coats and washed designer jeans.
